H1N1 Vaccine Guidelines

According to the World Health Organization the number of reported cases of H1N1 influenza has increased by at least 24,000 in just the past two weeks. And with the new H1N1 vaccine just recently being distributed to the public the CDC is reaffirming the current vaccination guidelines. The groups most at risk, and therefore should be vaccinated are:

  • Pregnant women
  • People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
  • Health care and emergency medical services personnel
  • Persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years of age
  • People from ages 25 through 64 years who are at higher risk for novel H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.
  • Please note that the  H1N1 vaccine is not intended to replace the seasonal flu vaccine. The seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines may be administered on the same day.  [via CDC]

Currently at my place there were no more death reported due H1N1, fortunately. It has maintained the number of 77 deaths for the past few weeks, but there’s no reason why we shouldn’t practice precautions. Carriers are all around.

I understand that children below 5 especially are at higher risk of getting infected with H1N1 but is it also a high risk for young adults too? since you mentioned that persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years of age is one of the ‘most at risk’ category?

Is there any side effect for pregnant women who wants to get vaccinated with seasonal flu vaccine and H1N1 vaccine?

Thanks in advance, and this place is always a great reference.

My doctor is telling all her patients not to get the H1N1 vaccine. She says the vaccine is full of mercury. Has anyone else heard of this? Also, in 1959 my husband & I got the swine flu. We had a young son to take care of.We couldn’t even take care of ourselves. So, we went to my in-laws house where my mother-in-law took care of our son, my husband & me. It was an awful flu!

Another question: I’m positive for the HHV6 test. What does that mean?

I have Fibromyallgia, Chronic Fatigue, & Multiple Sclerosis. I don’t think I should add mercury poisoning to my Immune System. My husband, daugher, & her 16yo twin sons all got the flu shot & came down with the flu. It lasted several days, I haven’t had the flu shot yet & I’m waiting for a kidney transplant. My immune system sucks!

Thank you for having a place to asik questions.

My grandsons all had flu shots about 36 hours before spending the night at our house. Ages 5, 3, and 1. The two older ones both were fine when they arrived but shortly after that they both were vomitting. This lasted all night. I don’t know the vacine they recieved but it seems kinda of suspicious that two out of three got sick.

    6. Ken123 Says:

Make sure all adverse reactions to flu vaccine gets reported to the CDC. You may save someone elses life.

    7. CORINNE YAWORSKI Says:

I am actually required by doctors to get the flu and swine flu vaccine. However, even though my doctor,(I have HMO) DOES NOT HAVE ANY VACCINE FOR THE POOR PEOPLE, THE LOCAL SHOT RITE AND MANY DRUG STORES HAVE IT. However, it is based on one’s insurance and ability to pay out of pocket. That leaves me out. I have congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, fibromyalgia, , etc ect.. So again, even though a life could depend on getting proper medical care, you know the old saying, IN NO WAY IS IT HUMOROUS, BUT DESPERATELY SINISTER IN CASES SUCH AS MINE, “Money talks,——–walks,” OR FALLS AND DIES. Are we really such an advanced country? The people that are miserable and have to work, (IF THEY ARE ABLE) will pick on those who cannot and say we are ”lazy.” The new welfare? Perhaps, for a small amount of people. But don’ t tell the working people that. We are having too much fun being chronically ill!!!
