Coconuts are “Nature’s Gatorade”

As more people search for alternative, non-soda beverages coconut water is fast becoming commonplace in American grocery stores. Coconut water, which comes from a young coconut, should not be confused with coconut milk, which is made from the fatty adult coconut. Coconut water actually contains a great deal of electrolytes including potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus which allow coconut water to be rapidly absorbed by our bodies. One registered dietician on ABC News likens it to “nature’s Gatorade.” So much so, in fact, that in emergency situations, coconut water has been used as intravenous fluid when saline isn’t available.     Fresh water from Green Coconut is known as a very healthy drink since prehistoric days in India. Guests are commonly entertained with this as a first drink to be offered as and when available. May be indigenous population of all countries, mainly of coastal regions and islands, where coconut palms grow in abundance, use it with same priority as in India and Bangladesh. It is a pleasure to learn that the advanced societies, as in USA, are now accepting this age old truth to their advantage. I commend “Daily Dose” for highlighting this information.
    This also indicates the importance for studying all aspects human behavior amongst all indigenous population, all over the world which may reveal many more useful facts for the benefit of humanity at large.

    Mmm, I love coconut water! This is great to know, especially since I’ve felt guilty each time I’ve had coconut water. I didn’t realize there was a difference between “water” and “milk” in terms of health! Thanks.
