Another year, another medication recall. Johnson & Johnson has voluntarily recalled all product lots of their Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles with the red EZ-Open Cap after consumers complained of a musty, mildew-like odor which has caused nausea, vomiting, upset stomach and diarrhea. Johnson & Johnson states the odor originates from trace amounts of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, which is believed to result from the breakdown of another chemical used to treat wooden pallets that transport and store packaging material. The company says the side effects have all been “temporary and non-serious.” The health effects of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole is currently unclear. If you have any bottles of the medication, it’s advised that you do not take it. Those who are seeking a refund or replacement can call J&J at 1-888-222-6036. [Associated Press via Yahoo! News]

HOW DO WE KNOW THAT THIS WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN? HOW SOON DO WARNINGS GO OUT?
January 1st, 2010 at 12:52 pm
Johnson & Johnson is moving production of this medication to a new facility in January, which they say should resolve the issue.

Why have we not been told where the Tylonol Product was manufactured. My bet is this is another attempt by our globalist elite to protect the continuing deplorable conditions in China. By all means lets not offend whoever manufactured the stuff. It appears THEY are more important than WE the people.

I am extremely concerned about this recall, I have taken these pills for some time and I have had all of the symtoms, have been to the Doctor for Three months trying to find out what was causing me all of these problems. Never thought that the Tylenol I was taking every morning is the problem.I just had over Two thousand dollars of blood work done. Since this warning I have stop the pills and appear to be better. I really beleive there are other side effects that are not being mention. like tingling of the fingers as well as the diarrhea, light headiness and nausea. How do I know that there are not any life long consequences.

Why hasn’t the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a arm of Johnson and Johnson, ran a Public Service Announcement concerning this the way they run public service announcements on Secondhand Cigarette Smoke?
January 1st, 2010 at 11:20 pm
I believe the RWJ Foundation deals with more long term public health and academic goals, rather than getting involved with the consumer products arm of Johnson & Johnson.

Perhaps checking in again with your doctor would be a good idea. Hopefully, after stopping the medication, your symptoms have improved.
January 1st, 2010 at 11:24 pm
Not necessarily, Lynda. I’d encourage you to visit your physician to see if your symptoms are in fact related to the medication.

this is i think the mandate of every body which is much more to the patient.when there is any adverse effects of a drug it is better to communicate to the oharmacist and to the physician.every drug including cosmotics are with adversae effets.

Ken – thanks for the link. I wish he would provide examples of their past grants (the link at the bottom of the article is broken, unfortunately). Although I don’t doubt at all the true intentions of some seemingly philanthropic organizations. But, as it goes in our capitalist society, sometimes you have to take the good with the bad…

I’ve been taking baby aspirin as a part of my current IVF (In Vitro) cycle. I’ve had gastrointestinal issues and dizziness, but assumed this was part of the other medications. I come to find out that the lot number on my bottle is included in the recall!
It makes me nervous that they don’t know the long term effects this may have on me…or my developing embryo! I understand how industry and corporations work, but this is simply NOT OK.
